As an education provider, we are proud to see the impact our alumni continue to make across the aesthetics and dermal therapy industry. Their journeys reflect the power of education, experience, and the commitment to growth. Our ACHW alumni Angie Shine, is a clear example of how commitment to learning empower professionals to grow, adapt, and thrive in the field, while building a loyal client base founded on trust and expertise.

Angie shared her story with us to understand more about her career trajectory and the continuous drive to achieve excellence in dermal therapy.

Starting in Beauty

Angie’s career began straight out of high school in 1996, where she studied cosmetology and took her first step into an industry that would become a lifelong passion. Like many in the field, Angie spent her early years moving across different areas of beauty, exploring and gaining experiences while trying to discover what truly resonated with her. That clarity came in 2003, when she purchased her own beauty salon, now named as Bliss, in East Fremantle.

Owning a clinic and working for herself completely transformed Angie’s relationship with her work and the industry. She quickly realised the reward of owning a clinic, delivering treatments, building genuine connections, and creating a space where clients felt safe and welcomed. It was this human connection, along with the satisfaction of helping people feel better about themselves, that cemented her love for beauty. Over time, Angie became widely known for her services, earning a strong reputation built on trust, skill, and consistency.

As her career progressed, so did her interests. While balancing the demands of business ownership, staff leadership, and motherhood, Angie found herself drawn towards more advanced, results-driven skin treatments. This growing curiosity sparked a desire to deepen her clinical knowledge and ultimately lead her to explore dermal therapy as the next step in her professional journey.

Pursuing Dermal Therapy Education with ACHW

In 2019, she attended the Australian Beauty Industry Awards in Sydney as a finalist and began researching dermal therapy education providers. This is where Angie encountered the Australasian College of Health and Wellness (ACHW).

“From my very first interaction with ACHW, I was impressed by the level of information, professionalism, and support offered to students.”

Angie pursued the Associate Degree of Applied Health Science (Dermal Therapy), studying for 2 years and continuously bringing that knowledge back to her clinic. She further explored the world of skin and transitioned her treatment offerings from beauty-based services to skin-focused treatments.

Growth of Bliss

After more than 22 years of running a successful clinic and leading a team, Angie is now intentionally pivoting her business. She has chosen to work independently, focusing exclusively on skin treatments that align with her passion and expertise.

Working alone allows her to give her full energy to each client, focus on personal and professional growth, and the ability to continue refining her craft. With a loyal client base, many of whom book up to 12 months in advance, Angie continues to guide them through personalised skin journeys built on trust and achievable results.

Beyond her clinic, she hopes to extend this passion by giving back to the industry, aspiring to educate the next generation of dermal therapists and to use her space as a hub for learning and professional development.

Now taking these steps into action, Angie is steadily bringing this vision to life. With ACHW expanding into Western Australia, we are excited to collaborate with her and have started our initial trial phase for student practicals at Bliss.

Angie Shine's Reflection on her study

Continuing Study and Reflection

Running a clinic, while raising a family, and focusing on education has not been without its challenges, but for Angie, it has been deeply rewarding.

“I’ve gained confidence in my clinical knowledge, pride in my academic discipline, and a deeper understanding of evidence-based skin health.”

The experience has been so impactful that Angie returned to ACHW to continue her studies and complete the Bachelor of Applied Health Science (Clinical Aesthetics).

As she looks back on her journey, Angie recognises how much both she and the industry have evolved. What began as a career entered with uncertainty has become a lifelong profession.

“When I first entered this industry, I was a young woman who didn’t fully know what direction her life would take. Now, as I experience the natural process of ageing myself, I often reflect on how grateful I am to have found a career that equips me with the knowledge and skills to age confidently, and to help others do the same.”

The Next Chapter

Angie Shine’s story is one of growth and resilience. An inspiring example of how passion, education, and purpose can evolve together over time.

In 2026, Angie plans to rebrand her business entirely with a new name and identity, refining her service offering, and continuing to invest in advanced education, products, and technology to support optimal outcomes for her clients.

We’re so glad to have connected with Angie and share her journey with the community. Angie reflects the values we champion at ACHW, and we look forward to seeing where her passion leads her next.
